Uncover: Chelsea attempted to sign a No. 9 forward from South America before Arsenal.

Gabriel Jesus' agent has stated that Chelsea, Arsenal's main Premier League opponents, intervened late to scuttle the North London giants' acquisition of the Brazil striker.

Arsenal finalised a £45million deal with the Citizens to bring in Mikel Arteta’s No.1 transfer target, Jesus at the Emirates Stadium.

Arteta had worked with the 25-year-old forward while he was Pep Guardiola’s assistant coach at the Etihad Stadium and thus knows the player well.

Brazil international forward has seemingly settled in quickly to life at the Emirates Stadium, founding back of the net twice in a pre-season friendly win over Nurnberg last week.

In the final days, they made a lot of effort to capture him. We had already selected our new project at that time.

Jesus' decision to select Arsenal over Chelsea was influenced by Arteta, who persuaded the Brazilian center-forward to join his team at the Emirates Stadium.

Jesus told Arsenal's official website, "We chatted a couple of times about the club, the players, the vision, and the future."

"I have complete faith in Mikel." He's a very nice man and a great coach, and we had a great time together before.
